Chinese giant Xiaomi has rolled out its Android 5.1 based MiUi 7 on Tuesday, October 27, 2015. The latest version of its operating system brings a number of new themes and features to its smartphones and tablets.
Xiaomi has been testing the beta version of the operating system since August 2015. Barra stated that MIUI 7 is created considering its large Indian user base. MIUI 7 is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and will be available for most phones/tablets as a simple download.

The MIUI 7 is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and comes with a number of improvements such as new themes and performance enhancements. Some of the highlights include four main themes Ocean Breeze, Pink Blush, Rose, and High Life which are included by Xiaomi in the update. Other than this users can chose to customize their lock screens with several new themes that will show weather forecast updates, match scores, games etc. Users will also get a new copyrighted image on daily basis from Xiaomi.
In country specific feature for India, Interactive Visual Response (IVR) comes as a real savior. This feature allow users to skip voice prompts while calling a customer service hotline. Xiaomi's Visual IVR will show the entire menu on the screen so users can tap on the selection quickly without wasting any time. The company revealed that although this feature is also available in MiUi 6 it has been further improved in MiUi 7 with support of more than 50 companies’ customer support numbers.
Another attention grabbing feature in the list is ShowTime; which allows you to record a 5 second video clip that you can set for individual contacts which will show up when you call a contact.
The other interesting features include Child Mode, that lets parents restrict which apps their children can use. It also allows to add passwords, and mute notifications. With 'Smart SMS filter' feature now you can separate all service messages in one section and keep your inbox clutter free. The ‘Quick OTP’ feature is another highlight of the update. As all major websites and online services send OTP these days the Quick OTP feature will definitely save a lot of your precious time. With the help of in-built OTP identifier the feature lets you copy the OTP code easily just when the notification comes in the pop-up.
Xiaomi has also added XXL font and has optimized its interface completely for better clarity. Till now, Xiaomi supported six Indian languages but now the number has gone to 10. The new languages added include Assamese and Marathi.
In addition, MIUI 7 also has a power-saving feature that claims to prolong the battery life up to 10 percent and improves response time by 30 percent.
